A flexible, entrepreneurially minded and autonomous workforce is the way we’re headed in tech. Contractors offer flexible staffing solutions and short term cover when you need a highly skilled folk and an energetic hit!

So, for start ups and scale ups, why hire a contractor over a perm member of staff?

  1. Flexibility: Hiring contractors provides tech companies with the flexibility to quickly scale their workforce up or down based on project demands or changing business needs.
  2. Specialised Skills and Expertise: You’ll often require highly specialised skills and expertise for specific projects or niche areas. Hiring contractors allows you to tap into a broader talent pool and bring in professionals with specific technical knowledge or domain expertise.
  3. Cost-effectiveness: Hiring contractors can be a cost-effective option for tech companies, particularly for short-term projects or tasks that don’t require a full-time employee. Contractors on short term projects are typically responsible for their own benefits, taxes, and equipment; this can result in cost savings for the company. We’ll talk about IR35 another day 😉
  4. Rapidly Changing Technology Landscape: The tech industry is known for its fast-paced nature and ever-evolving technologies. Hiring contractors allows companies to adapt quickly to emerging technologies and market trends. Contractors often stay updated with the latest industry developments and can bring fresh perspectives and skills that might not be readily available within the company’s existing workforce.
  5. Reduced Administrative Burden: Hiring contractors reduces the administrative burden associated with managing full-time employees. This allows companies to focus on their core business activities while outsourcing specific projects or tasks to contractors. Having said that, I’ll definitely cover IR35 in another post!

Give me a shout if you want to talk about how to hire different types of workers, your compliance burden with IR35 (small businesses are exempt), or a great talent attraction strategy!
